Pitbull & Xtina's Feel This Moment - Video Review

Posted on 04:43 by rajveer

Christina Aguilera's unbreakable lotus has finally been set free! After a couple of chart misfires, the iconic diva is rising up - back to the beginning - with another international smash. I wrote about "Feel This Moment" last month and basically called it a hot mess. That opinion still stands but the song has become something of a guilty pleasure and it warms what's left of my dead heart to hear Xtina's glorious pipes back on the radio.

And, it seems, I'm not alone. Despite minimal promotion, the '80s classic-sampling club banger is shooting up the charts worldwide. It would have been nice for one of the many great tracks on Lotus to get this kind of attention but I guess you need Pitbull's insightful musings - "I'm a genius, I mean brilliant" - to get bitches to click download. But that's a complaint for another day.

A belated video dropped over the weekend and it's as low brow and seemingly low budget as the song. There's a lot of tour footage, Mr Worldwide looking moronic but sexy (shut up - there's something about him!) and Godtina redefining flawlessness. I love her ridiculous wig and the fact that she's wearing more make-up than a Mexican tranny.

But most of all, I live for the parts where she's mouthing the words to Pit's rhymes, like she's collaborating with Jay Z or someone vaguely relevant. Christina is so awkward that it's endearing. I really hope she gets her groove back and reminds everyone how a real diva does it. This is a step in the right direction.

Floptina No More - Feel This Moment Is A Hit

Posted on 04:59 by rajveer

First of all, sorry for the lack of updates. I've got a lot of shit going on at the moment but everything will be back to normal soon. In the meantime, please bear with me - and follow my ramblings on Twitter. There are a few things I want to comment on but let's start with the exit of Floptina. After a horror run, the dirtiest diva in the game finally has a hit on her hands. "Feel This Moment" is shooting up iTunes around the world - it's already top 10 in many countries across Europe and the Middle East - and is sitting just outside the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100.

All of this is rather surprising - firstly because the A-Ha-sampling song was actually released way back in November 2012 and did absolutely nothing and, secondly, because there's been no promo. I guess the world just missed Godtina! To be honest, "Feel This Moment" is a hot mess. It's the kind of generic Pitbull trash that sounds amazing after your tenth trip to the bar on a Saturday night. I do rather like the "Take On Me" sample and Christina's vocal is endearingly over-the-top.

The fucked up thing is - this is what a bitch has to do to get a hit these days. There are half a dozen great songs on Lotus but radio is paying the pop legend dust and her label has all but pulled the plug. You literally have to make this kind of lowest common denominator shit for gays to spend $1.69 on a download. What is life? Oh well, hopefully this is massive and injects some interest into the Lotus campaign - even though it's on Pitbull's horrendous album. Watch the crappy lyric video below and download from Aus iTunes now.

Xtina's Legendary AMA Performance

Posted on 05:01 by rajveer

I know I'm late on this but I just had to pay tribute to the best live performance of 2012. Christina Aguilera's Lotus medley shook my world to its very foundations earlier this week. I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or fall to my knees and worship. The performance is such a piping hot mess that it transcends criticism and becomes something quite magical.

There's nothing wrong with Xtina's vocal. She sounded fine and I approve of her eating for two since becoming a TV host. You'd take solace in food too if you had to listen to those cunts on The Voice all day. But what was that outfit? Who is responsible for the Madonna-circa-1997 choreography? And which fuckwit picked the songs?

Christina has only performed "Your Body" once on Jimmy Fallon - acoustically with office supplies, no less. Someone needs to tell the lazy bitch that it's not 2001 anymore. The buzz is gone. She is going to have to work for a hit. The AMAs would have been a nice promo opportunity for the track but she sings the "Lotus intro" instead. What the fuck? And then teams it up with "Army Of Me" and "Let There Be Love". Why not just belt out a "Woo Hoo"/"Vanity" mash-up? It would have been just as relevant.

The performance is infuriating but absolutely mesmerising. I can't get enough of this and pray for a Lotus tour. You just know it will redefine so-wrong-it's-right entertainment for decades to come!

Remembering Christina's Reflection

Posted on 06:00 by rajveer

So I dropped into JB Hi-Fi this afternoon to buy Lotus, most likely doubling sales in NSW. As one of the few people that actually like Xtina's new album, it was nice to finally hold a physical copy in my hands. The experience got me thinking about the first time I bought a Christina Aguilera CD. That was, scarily enough, way back in 1998. I vividly remember stumbling across "Reflection" in the music section of Grace Bros (these were the days before Myer) and thinking who the fuck is this bitch?

I never heard the big-lunged diva's contribution to the Mulan soundtrack on Australian radio or TV. It certainly didn't chart and she wasn't mentioned in any of the teen magazines I used to obsess over. But like so many times before (and since), I was intrigued by the cover and bought it on a whim. I don't know what I expected but it wasn't an over-the-top Celine Dion-tastic power ballad. There's nothing particularly unique about the song - that sound was everywhere in the late '90s - but it was love at first listen and I still rank "Reflection" as one of Xtina's finest moments.

Not that it did anything. "Reflection" only peaked at 19 on the US Adult Contemporary Chart. The track did help Christina secure a record deal with RCA, so I guess it was a milestone of sorts. Time has been pretty kind to the Lotus flower's debut single - probably because it wasn't very cool to begin with. The zero budget video (below) cracks me up and I love her Jennie Garth-inspired hairdo. Maybe she just needs to record another song for a flop cartoon to revive her career? No?

Christina Aguilera's Lotus - Album Review

Posted on 07:01 by rajveer

I spent a ridiculous amount of time listening to Christina Aguilera's Lotus over the weekend, so I could let it all sink in and review it with an open mind. The usual cunts have already written it off citing the failure of "Your Body" to set the charts on fire but I don't get why everyone is so concerned about sales. It's like you all became accountants just to drag Xtina. Surely it's more important that big-lunged diva has regrouped and delivered her best album since Stripped? There's a lot to love on Lotus if you can look past the half a dozen or so songs about her army of haters. The two Max Martin/Shellback dance songs are great but Adele 2.0 really comes into her own with the power ballads. "Sing For Me" and "Blank Page" (below) are the standouts and should have wide-appeal. Hate if you must but I give Lotus:

Bionic Revisited - Hideous Mess Or Misunderstood Masterpiece?

Posted on 20:17 by rajveer

In 2010 I reviewed Bionic and pretty much teared Xtina's experimental offering apart. My opinion has softened over the years - the ballads are really very good - but I did my best to pretend the album didn't exist until earlier this week when Idolator asked me to revisit the much-maligned opus to celebrate the release of Lotus. I was terrified at first and had a bottle of holy water ready to throw over my laptop if needed but the album holds up rather well and I think I can finally judge the music on its merits. Click here to read my retrospective review of Bionic but first enjoy the magic of "Desnudate" below!

Christina Aguilera Ends World Hunger

Um while your lame fave is blowing RedOne for recycled beats, Xtina is ending world hunger by preaching the value of nutrition. I'm so embarrassed for you right now.

Lordtina Is Now The Patron Saint Of Toilet Sex: 'Your Body' - Video Review

Posted on 23:14 by rajveer

It's finally here! Christina Aguilera's "Your Body" visual dropped this morning and I'm still reeling from its brilliance. First things first. The preview was misleading. I thought Xtina was going to spend most of the clip guzzling beer in a trailer park like Beyoncé in "Party" but that's just a tiny piece of the puzzle. The always-edgy music legend actually plays a horny femme fatale who goes on an extremely colourful murder spree. In an unusual but possibly inspired dieting strategy, Christina swaps cake for cock. And she's as insatiable as ever!

Lordtina fucks in cars, sleazy motel rooms and a toilet cubicle. Which pretty much confirms that she's a gay man trapped in a woman's body. This also explains why she looks like a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race.  The thing is - it works. Xtina has always been a more-is-more kinda girl. She would look naked without a kilo of make-up and enough fake hair to insulate a house. I love the way the director camps up the murders by using paint and glitter instead of blood and the scene where Christina poses by the side of the road on her suitcase like a cracked out teletubby is so fucking ridiculous/amazing that I have no choice but to watch it on repeat.

Time will tell if "Your Body" is powerful enough to break the curse of Bionic. It debuted in the US top 40 this week and has been fairly stable on iTunes after an initial post-release dip. Fingers crossed radio gives Xtina a chance and she hits the TV circuit to promote it. Pop needs this bitch to get her groove back. Someone has to keep tireless publicity whores like Rihanna and Lady Gaga in check. This is a good start.

Shakira Strikes Back

Posted on 00:11 by rajveer

A couple of days ago I was ready to get a pretentious haircut and start writing an indie music blog. Pop, I ranted, had jumped the shark. Since then we've had era-defining new tunes from Ke$ha, Christina Aguilera and Shakira. So excuse me while I wipe the egg off my face. I love all three ladies for different reasons but I'm particularly excited about the Colombian diva's comeback. She is the biggest star on the planet in South America and much of Europe but her fortunes in the English speaking world have taken a dive. "Truth Or Dare" could be the song to change all that.

Produced by Fernando Garibay (the man behind Lady Gaga's "Edge Of Glory" and Britney's best bonus track "Amnesia"), the bangin' electro-anthem repositions Shakira as the thinking man's dance diva. It's a bold move but Beyoncé's one-time duet partner has already conquered pop, rock, reggaeton, tango and merengue - so this is essentially a no brainer. The lovely Latina has also signed on to judge the next season of The Voice, which will raise her profile enormously in America. While we wait for a HQ version of "Truth Or Dare" to leak, check out the (alleged) cover art (above). Does it remind anyone else of her iconic "Don't Bother" artwork?

Christina Aguilera Previews Your Body

Posted on 23:12 by rajveer

Christina Aguilera's quest to snatch Adele's crown as the most popular plus-sized diva in pop continues with the first peek at "Your Body". And I'm completely sold. Not only is the song a total smash - top 10 and climbing on US iTunes - but the visual looks like a return to form. For starters, the malicious tranny that styled "Not Myself Tonight" did not get a call back. Xtina looks female again and she's not making an fool of herself in bizarre fetish wear. Sure, someone in her camp saw Beyoncé's "Party" video one too many times:

Exhibit A

But I'm here for lessors paying homage to the Queen and Christina first championed the trailer park look way back in "Dirrty", so she's really just returning to her roots. The rest of the video reminds me of Luciana's "I'm Still Hot" but has considerably higher production values like an exploding car. I can't wait for the finished product and I'm really excited about Lotus. Xtina is taking no chances this time and the world is ready for her to reclaim her spot on the B+ List. Download "Your Body" from iTunes today and make a big girl smile.

Why Christina Aguilera Is A Legend

Posted on 06:39 by rajveer

I'm here for the return of Christina Aguilera. The popular music needs her to release another huge album if only to annoy the haters. New single "Your Body" leaked a couple of weeks ago and it sounded like a pretty generic dance track to my ears but I'm sure it's a grower and let's face it - she can't really do any worse than "Keeps Gettin' Better". To celebrate Xtina's impending slayage I thought I'd post the stunning cover (above), which I assume is fanmade unless the diva has completely lost her mind, and a clip (below) that sums up all that is great about the humble pop legend. That gorgeous hair and make-up, those golden pipes and her inability to ever over-sing anything have made Christina the star she is today. Bring on "Your Body". It's time to make Bionic a bad memory.

This could have been a reality if Xtina has joined forces with Maroon 5 ten years ago. You know, before she discovered Taco Bell.
