Margaret Cho is my idol. I'll never forget seeing one of her early stand-up shows in Sydney where she talked about experimenting with a gigantic butt-plug. At length. That story pretty much turned me off sex for life but it's impossible to hold a grudge against the woman who played Kim Jong-il on 30 Rock. As much as I stan for Maggie, I never got around to checking out her music. Mostly because I was terrified it would suck. Like Adam Sandler's. But "Baby I'm With The Band" found its way into my inbox a couple of weeks ago and I'm happy to say it's a complete revelation.
Yes, the song is piss-yourself funny but it's also a straight-up pop gem with a chorus that put puts out like the town whore. I can't get over how good Margaret sounds and the breezy production is so on-trend. Foster The People have officially lost their wig! The track is taken from the album "Cho Dependent", which features collaborations with Tegan and Sara, Fiona Apple and Ben Lee. I'm dying to hear saucy numbers like "My Puss" and "Gimme Your Seed". While I wait for the CD to arrive, I'm just going to keep watching "Baby I'm With The Band" (below) on repeat. What are waiting for?
